Top of Toilet Tank Decor Ideas That Instantly Upgrade Your Bathroom
The top of the toilet tank is small, but it is right at eye level when you walk into the bathroom, so it deserves a little attention. These toilet tank decor ideas show how to style the spot so it looks intentional, stays practical and is easy to clean. The key is a tray, a few well-chosen pieces and nothing that blocks access to the cistern lid.
Toilet tank styling basics
| Item | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Tray | Corrals items and lifts off easily |
| Greenery | Adds life and softens hard surfaces |
| Lidded jars | Hide cotton pads and spares |
| Scent | Diffuser or matches keeps it fresh |
| Small art | Builds a vignette with the wall |
Simple and structured
- Keep it minimal with just two or three pieces for a calm, clean look.
- Add a small tray in marble, rattan or wood to group everything.
- Use symmetry with matching jars or candles at each end.
- Play with height by pairing a tall vase with a low dish.
Greenery and scent
- Place a small pothos or snake plant if the bathroom has some light.
- Use a bud vase of eucalyptus for fresh scent and colour.
- Add a reed diffuser or a box of long matches for a quick refresh.
Functional decor
- Store spare toilet roll in a woven basket or a lidded canister.
- Use apothecary jars for cotton balls, cotton buds and bath salts.
- Stand a small towel or flannel roll in a tray for guests.
Personal touches
- Lean a small framed print against the wall behind the tray.
- Add a wooden accent like a carved bowl or stack of wooden beads for warmth.
- Match your bathroom theme with coastal shells, boho rattan or modern black accents.
- Choose waterproof, wipeable pieces so splashes are never a problem.
Tip: Keep everything on a single tray so you can lift it off in one move when the cistern needs attention. Avoid lit candles on the tank since towels and paper are close by, and use LED candles instead; also keep toxic plants and diffusers out of reach of pets and young children.
