Finish ideas
- Matte black fans that contrast crisply with light wood.
- Brushed nickel for a soft, modern look on pine.
- Aged bronze to warm up dark walnut ceilings.
- White fans that recede on whitewashed boards.
- Brass accents for a vintage, glamorous touch.
Blade material ideas
- Natural wood blades that echo the ceiling tone.
- Contrasting dark blades on pale oak.
- Rattan or woven cane blades for coastal and boho rooms.
- Bamboo-look blades for tropical style.
- Clear acrylic blades that almost disappear.
Style ideas
- A sleek three-blade modern fan for minimal rooms.
- A farmhouse cage fan with a light kit.
- A windmill-style fan for vaulted ceilings.
- An industrial fan with exposed metal for lofts.
Mounting and function
- A flush-mount hugger fan for low wood ceilings.
- A downrod mount for vaulted or tall ceilings.
- A DC motor fan with remote control for quiet, efficient running.
- An integrated LED light to avoid a separate fixture.
Tip: Ceiling fans must be mounted to a fan-rated electrical box secured to framing, not to wood planks alone. Turn off power at the breaker and have a licensed electrician install or replace hardwired fans, and keep blades at least 2.1m above the floor.
FAQ
What colour fan looks best on a wood ceiling?
Matte black and white are the most versatile; wood blades work when they are clearly lighter or darker than the ceiling.
Can you install a ceiling fan on a wood plank ceiling?
Yes, but it must attach to a fan-rated box fixed to joists or a brace behind the planks.
What fan suits a vaulted wood ceiling?
A larger fan on an angled downrod adapter keeps the blades at the right height.
