By the Viral Info team · Updated November 2026 · 3 min read

Grey Tile Bathroom

Grey tile is practical, hard-wearing and easy to match, but the wrong shade can leave a bathroom feeling like a cold, echoing box. The fix is choosing greys with warm undertones and pairing them with wood, brass and soft light. These 18 grey tile bathroom ideas show how to keep the look modern and welcoming.

Warm vs cool grey tile

Item Why it works
Greige stone-look Warm undertone, calm and versatile
Grey zellige Handmade glaze adds movement
Terrazzo with warm chips Pattern without busyness
Charcoal slate Depth for floors and feature walls
Blue-grey porcelain Use sparingly or it feels chilly

Choosing the tile

  1. Pick large-format greige floor tiles so the room reads as one calm surface.
  2. Use grey zellige in the shower for a glossy, handmade texture.
  3. Try a stone-look porcelain with subtle veining instead of flat concrete grey.
  4. Lay a charcoal hexagon floor for contrast under a pale vanity.
  5. Choose a grey terrazzo with warm cream or rust chips.

Layout and pattern

  1. Lay tiles in a herringbone on the floor to add movement.
  2. Stack rectangular tiles vertically to make a low ceiling feel taller.
  3. Tile one feature wall floor to ceiling behind the bath.
  4. Run the floor tile into the shower for a seamless walk-in look.

Warming materials

  1. Add a light oak floating vanity to soften all that stone.
  2. Choose brushed brass or bronze taps over chrome.
  3. Use a warm grey or sand grout instead of bright white.
  4. Bring in a teak bath mat or stool for natural texture.

Light and styling

  1. Fit warm white bulbs around 2700K so grey reads soft rather than steely.
  2. Add a backlit or sconce-lit mirror for flattering, even light.
  3. Layer linen or waffle towels in oat and cream.
  4. Place a large leafy plant to bring life to the tile.
  5. Paint the walls above the tile a warm off-white or soft plaster tone.

Tip: Use slip-resistant tiles on the floor and in the shower. Look for a slip rating suitable for wet areas (such as R10 or higher, or a high wet DCOF value), and remember glossy tiles are best kept to walls.
